"Derek, you have it all wrong." My phone rings the all too familiar ringtone interrupting us once again. I try to shut it off but it's too late.
"It's like he knows when I'm with you." he says as he slams the car door closed. He runs his hands down his face "But how can he? I bet he doesn't even know I exist, you forgot I did."
His words hit me like knives straight to my heart, more so because I can feel the pain behind them. "Derek I didn't forget you." I whisper taking a step towards him.
"Save it, go ahead and call your boyfriend back, I'm going to take a cab." He turns around and heads back towards the street. I want to follow him, I should follow him, but I can't, I wouldn't know what to say, he's right I should have called, I should have been there with all of them but instead I shut him out without ever telling him why. And now he hated me and I had no one to blame but myself.
