The war is over. Voldemort has been defeated. While Hermione Granger tries to keep face, demonstrating the courage and tenacity of Gryffindor house, she only sinks a little further into tangible silence, to the great dismay of her friends. The last year of Hogwarts should be her refuge, her hour of respite. However, the Prince of snakes had to be head boy and share her own lair. Stubborn at heart, Hermione promises to ignore him and fails miserably.

As the weeks pass, and her failing personality seems to distance her from her own friends, the Golden Girl realizes that Draco Malfoy, behind his mocking and pretentious exterior, seems to be the only one to accept her as she is.

Resisting temptation to preserve one's heart seems the last priority when Hermione learns from McGonagall that she must spy on the Slytherin. How can she bear the weight of her emotions for Malfoy when one misstep on her part and everyone she loves could die?
