In the shadowed heart of Uncanny Valley, a wildland whispered about in hushed tones and shrouded in folklore, the disappearance of young Samson White has unsettled the tight-knit community of Appletree. When FBI Agent Lucinda Ferryman arrives in the town, her presence stirs more than just the Spring leaves. With a history as enigmatic as the valley itself, her investigation threatens to unravel not just the mystery of Samson's vanishing but also the very fabric of Uncanny Valley's darkest secrets. (retro horror; prompt #78; set as 'mature' rating even though not planning any gore, course language, sexually explicit content but, hey, why limit myself; set in the Roanoke State universe).

Welcome to Lake Tahoe; a place with gigantic Sugar Pines trees, a magnificent lake, fabulous casinos, and huge muscle-bound Werewolves. This is all normal to Lou Slaughter. This is not normal for Iowa transplant, Lola Schoening. She knows nothing about Tahoe. Lou doesn't like humans; always in the way, always irritating, always around...but he does like one little human female more than he wants to admit. Lou struggles with how to tell Lola what he is because Lola can explain away all that is strange and unexplainable very easily, much to Lou's disgust. Nothing is normal or explainable when the truth comes out that Lou is not just a man. Lola cannot deny what she saw: the claws, the fangs, or the glowing golden eyes. This is only one of Lola's problems, its a large canine problem, but not her only one. Something is lurking in the darkness, stalking her, spying on her and toying with her. Something is also lurking in the darkness, stalking Lou, spying on him and threatening him too. Who's afraid of the big, bad Wolf? Everything and everyone, except what hides, camouflaged in the darkness. There are things that walk in the night that Werewolves should bow down to and fear. The only thing Lou fears is losing Lola. Everything else, in his opinion, can go f*@k itself.
