Aria Baker is quiet, good-natured girl living in Maryland with her mom and dad. She's had a less than fortunate life for her first eight years, with her mother's inherited alcoholism and her father not understanding the importance of being consistently present. Yet despite the odds she's managed to remain uncommonly kind.

But now the dead are walking, and her dad decides to disappear off again. When her mom goes after him, Aria is left alone. She's scared, confused and hours away from home. Her only hope for her parents return being her mom's promise that she'll "be right back."
