Ivan Isley was a regular boy going to Gotham University and majoring in Earth Science and studying the occult. One day on an outing with his cousin Pamela they were attacked by the Joker's thugs and he was badly injured, so much so that he was on the brink of death. Pamela wasn't about to let that happen. So she planted him a cocoon of plants and eco enzymes to heal him, but when his mind and will to live wouldn't kept dwindling, she sought help from another source.
