Sometimes we ask for blessings that we may never receive, because we are not where those blessings can reach us. One may possess the supernatural power to call down fire from heaven, but before that, the common sense to employ simple natural power to repair and prepare the altar on which that fire should fall (1 Kings 18:30-32). Often, blessings miss us, not because they were never sent, but because we were never at the address to which they were sent. Had Zacharias the Priest been absent from the altar where the messenger from Heaven met him with the miracle ‘baby-parcel’ six months before “Christmas,” perhaps the world would have had to wait another century for another John the Baptist.
