Ciri17 knows what to expect from life. There will be darkness until her twenty-first birthday when she can leave the servant life. In Graceling, there are five divisions of society. There are the servants at the bottom of the scheme who serve the rich under the supervision of the guards who also perform the punishments. Above them are the Elites, soldiers trained in the scientific and military respects. The Spectors rule over them, but what happens when a servant like Ciri discovers a secret of the Spectors and rich that she was never meant. 

It all starts when Ciri begins working for Elite, Jasper Ryan. All she wants was to be with her friend, Umber, but her dynamic serving Jasper changes when Ciri discovers the secret of a lifetime and suffers a heartbreak that transforms her. She must force her master to go with her for protection. The Elite and the servant must leave the city to seek counsel from the one man who knows more about the Spectors than possible. On her way, she must learn acceptance and trust towards
those who she was never meant to speak to. What other secrets will she learn of in her future?All Rights Reserved

The company wants Ellie to go and find the kid, and Ellie doesn't know if she can. The one rule she's stuck to all her working life is to never to go to America, but now she might have to. She will have to, if she wants to save the daughter she hasn't seen in years.
