"I woke up with a start. Blood surrounded, and coated me as if an extra skin. I looked around taking in my icy surroundings I had no idea where I was, or even who I was. What I did know, was that the blood wasn’t mine.
Pain surged through my body and yet it didn’t disturb me. I welcomed it, it made so that I knew that I was still alive and just another casualty in these deadly mountains. Beautiful and unforgiving. I inhaled the frosty air into my lungs and let it overtake me completely before breathing it back out. I rolled my neck just as the memories started flooding in. Unwelcomed.
I remembered my parents faces as they had come to take me. To experiment on me like some animal. The vile liquid that I had to take in order to see my fate. I had fallen to the ground, not breathing yet I was still alive. They hauled me off as my wailed after them, falling to the ground.
Then came the memories of what they did to me. I could never forget something like that. The probing, the cold metal table, the cold liquid in my veins. The horrible sensation of them digging through my brain, trying to find anything about the cure to the disease. The disease that had wiped out more than half of the human race. It turned them into grey shadows with sunken white pits for eyes, easily able to kill you with a swipe of their talons.
I know that I was no longer any use for them now that they had gotten what they wanted, discarded me like roadkill. Leaving me to the elements, and the predators. I looked down at my hands, I couldn’t see much through the blood, but I could make out harsh skin. My light brown skin was gone, turned into stone. I looked down hill, and chunks of rock were scattered, parts of dried skin stuck to the underneath. I reached up and touched my face, through the blood you could feel the same texture.
“What did they turn me into?” I whispered into the wind “What did you do to me!” I screamed, making birds take flight."
