As a child, Estrilda fled Danish invaders in Bebbanburg and settled in Wessex. She lived an unassuming life as a healer until the return of her brother Uhtred, who had been presumed dead since the invasion. After reuniting with Uhtred, Estrilda takes on the life of a warrior and vows to never leave his side.

Years later, when Uhtred is betrayed by the Northumbrian king and sold into slavery, Estrilda convinces Alfred-King of Wessex-to send a group to recover her brother. Upon freeing the men aboard the slave ship, Estrilda is surprised to meet an Irishman just as loyal to her brother as she.

When the band of warriors returns to Northumbria, Estrilda struggles to follow her brother into battle against the brothers, Erik and Sigefrid, as she confronts past sins committed against her. The Irishman, determined to restore Estrilda to the version of herself that he met on the beach, refuses to leave her to her vices.

REMINDER/DISCLAIMER: Very little is actually known about the Picts and their beliefs, language, etc. There are a lot of educated guesses and suppositions, and I have attempted to incorporate as much fact as I have been able to find in my hours of research. THAT SAID... I have definitely taken a lot of creative liberties with my creation of my Pictish OC(s). Also, I realize that modern Irish language is called "Irish," not Gaelic, and is very definitely a separate language from Scots Gaelic. However, from what little I have been able to find in my research, it is likely that circa 900 c.e., the Irish and Albans/Scots (and the few remaining Picts) spoke a version of Old Gaelic that was similar enough to be understood between the two. So when I reference anyone speaking Gaelic (vs Irish), it is with that in mind. Basically - don't come for me if it's all too fantastical. This is fanfic, it's supposed to be fantasy!
