Ronsel Jackson and Jamie McAllan are two men who have seen the horrors of World War 2. Ronsel, a black ex-tanker sergeant, returns to his hometown of Marietta, Mississippi, where he faces the oppression and violence of the Jim Crow South. Jamie, a white ex-bomber pilot, struggles to cope with his PTSD and the preassure of society's expectations.

When their paths cross, they find an unexpected connection that transcends their differences and challenges their society. But their forbidden love comes at a high price, as they face the wrath of their families, their neighbors, and their own demons.
