While inside, he's shaken up when he encounters the mysterious and seductive Dahlia, a gorgeous vampire. Even after the research is a success and he returns home, he can't stop thinking and dreaming about her. When he decides to return to that town so he can see her again, it marks the beginning of their passionate bond and a thirst for revenge.

Four months after his defeat by the Guardians, Pitch Black finds himself at his lowest-injured, hunted by his own Nightmares, and stripped of his power. When he collapses in a Pennsylvania wheat field during a storm, he's discovered by Elizabeth Cramer, a 22-year-old farmer who sees him not as the Nightmare King, but as a man in desperate need of help. Color-blind and isolated from the world beyond her family's struggling farm, Elise has no idea who he is or what he's done. As she nurses him back to health, Pitch must confront the humanity he thought he'd lost centuries ago, while Elise begins to see that the world-and the beings in it-are far stranger than she ever imagined. In the quiet spaces between fear and trust, an unlikely bond forms that will challenge everything they thought they knew about monsters, redemption, and what it means to be seen.
