Book #3 in the Medley Series

ZEKE MITCHELL:

With the World Championship in swimming approaching and our medley team in better condition than ever, nothing can stop us.

Expect, as the season starts, an old injury rears its ugly head again, potentially incapacitating me right before Worlds, the most crucial completion leading up to the Olympics.

And at the same time, my best friend decides to return to the States - my state - steeling my focus and making me wish she wouldn't leave in a year.

But trying to tie down Maya Bakari is like attempting to capture smoke with your bare hands. She's a gorgeous whirlwind, and soon, she'll blow away.

My head is swimming with a million things that have nothing to do with water, and it's threatening to take me out of the game for good.

And I can't let that happen.

MAYA BAKARI:

Well, it had to happen. My parents have been begging me to return to America to finish my degree since I left to see the world six years ago.

I give in, promising them one year, before I'm out of here again. Just being in the country is making my skin itch.

I'm not the same girl who left.

When choosing college, I go where my best friend is: Michigan.

But Zeke Mitchell is everything I love about the States. He's home and fun and a whole array of new inappropriate feelings.

And with him out of the water indefinitely, we have way too much time together.
He's trying to convince me to stay, and I'm afraid he'll succeed.

I won't let that happen.

I chuckled slightly and shook my head. "Does that usually work for you? The cute little remarks and that nice smile." I teased. He gave me a sheepish look of surprise. "Most girls would be flattered at my attempt to flirt with them." I scoffed and shook my head. "Well, as a member of the "most girls" community, I can say that I am not." "Wow. That's a bit harsh." He gave me a smug look and crossed his arms. "Sorry," I shrugged. "I'm immune to boy charms. In fact, I think I'm allergic." "Well, don't think so highly of yourself. Just because you have cute dimples and a pretty face, doesn't mean I find you attractive." ------------------------------ Maya Cameron is a senior at Ohio State University and this is the year where you need to get your life together before you get pushed out into the real world. Writing is the only thing that keeps her sane after all of the trauma she's been though. With her mom and dad's unfortunate death, she's been left under the care of her evil step-aunt and forced to stay with her annoying step-cousin. As if college isn't stressful enough. And then there's this other guy in her life. They met online by accident and have been talking for months but she's not brave enough to make it something real. Will Ashby is the all-around superstar on campus. He's practically royalty because he's the running back on the Ohio State Football team: one of the best college football teams in America. Will is the person guys want to be and guy girls want to be with. But in actuality, he'd rather blend in with the background noise. His only focus has been football and finishing his degree. That was until he met this girl. He doesn't even know her name or what she looks like, but she's the girl he'd want to be real with. Because of circumstances, Will needs an English tutor or he won't be able to play. And much to her dismay, Maya is the perfect person for the job. Started: January 2021 Completed: October 2021

After her parents' divorce, Abigail is overcome with anger and frustration. Unexpectedly, a math teacher makes it her life's mission to help her out, and the two form an unusual friendship. As their bond deepens, Abigail unravels the challenges of Ms. Bennett's life: her relentless dedication to her work and her incapability to form any type of relationship have held her back from living at the fullest, and perhaps she should be saved from her own insecurities. While Abigail falls in love for the first time, she is torn between her first love and her unexplainable attraction to Ms. Bennett; they rely on each other to fight their battles, and have to decide whether their feelings are strong enough to follow them. "You did good," calmly stated Ms. Bennett, putting her hand on Abigail's thigh. "Look at that sunset," said an amazed Abby, staring at the sky changing color right in front of them. As if it was an obvious request, the two women got out of the car and placed the tablecloth on the grass, then lay down on it, with their attention completely drawn to the stars above their heads. While Abby was thinking about her hand accidentally yet not at all unwelcomed brushing against Ms. Bennett's, she was reflecting on how much the young girl had changed her life, putting her out of her misery and need to look for comfort in her work. "The moon is beautiful, isn't it?" Ms. Bennett murmured under her breath. English is not my first language so be patient with me :)
