Being a 'difficult woman', Oklahoma farm-gal Mavis wasn't having much luck with the local dating pool. Her Pa signed her up to emigrate to newly terraformed Mars, because 'Mars needs women'. Maybe there she could find a good man to marry. But Mavis had no intention of getting hitched, despite what the legal contract said.

Walt, the son of successful Mars merchants, had no intention of going through with a forced arranged marriage. Finding a kindred spirit in Mavis, they chose their own path.

A sci-fi sorta-romance story written for the 2024 Open Novella Contest based on prompt #88: "Your father is forcing you to marry someone you never met. The night before your wedding, you tie your sheets together and make your escape through the window. Half way down you make eye contact with someone doing the exact same thing a few windows over."

BioSynth is one half of a duology of novellas. Both follow the same sequence of events from different PoVs. BioSynth is Quentin's tale; SynTracker is Ian's. Collectively, they're known as Syn. ≡≡≡ Photographer Quentin Morgan has almost everything he could ask for. With a dream job that takes him all over the world, married to the love of his life for the past eight years, it's only his husband's line of work that leaves a bad taste in his mouth. Quentin finds the job distasteful, but Ian says they're weapons, and weapons don't weep. A car crash that could have killed Quentin reveals the shocking truth: he, himself, is a BioSynth. I hope you guys enjoy this story. ***** Camila Romano, the daughter of Mr. Romano the CEO of Romano Industries. We can say she lived a wealthy life but that wasn't the case here. Her dad has always been strict and they weren't close but even though her dad was always mean to her she still loved him. She graduated in medicine and is now a Doctor. Alejandro Huxley, from the Huxley family. He lived in Italy but he moved to New York since his dad passed the company to him, Alejandro became wealthier and that boosted his arrogance and rudeness much more. But what if that promise will be shattered? When they get married will chaos find this a perfect time to create disaster or will destiny find this a good time for them to fall in love with each other? Who will win Destiny or Chaos? People say when you fall in love you get hit by this inexpressible electricity that makes you fall in love and care for that one person, but what if someone gets hit first before the other? -this story is from my originality and mine only -concept by Alyne Tan, Katkat Cabasa and Laurence Postrano

"Father? " she calls in a cranky tone "What is really the meaning of these documents? ". He scoffs and sips his coffee less concerned " What does it look like? " he snaps "It's an arranged marriage obviously". He continues reading his newspapers and a tear drops down her face. " Father why are you doing this to me? " she whimpers "Why do you badly want to punish me? ". She chokes back the tears that were threatening to pour out " Because you've refused to grow and change!" he rasps "You have just decided to kill me before my time. You have already done enough and i'm quite fed up". He closes his newspaper and leans closer to her. " You are going to show up on your wedding day and marry the man i have chosen for you. Don't make things harder than it already is". He sprang up and storms out, she fell to the floor sobbing in unbearable pain. *Helena, a perhaps spoilt, wealthy young woman with the face and body. Of course she's every mans' dream but she rather sees men as a toy to be used and tossed aside. Actually she prefers the opposite, she doesn't want to fall victim of a situation where a man will use her and dump her like they are termed to always do. "So, literally she has no care in the world. But now the table has rotated and she's in for a forever game. Apparently, the above argument shows that her father signed an arranged marriage with a man she has never met and un-fortunately, there's no turning back........... Read More.......

The Alien Commander's Surrogate

69 parts Ongoing Mature

For over a hundred rotations, my kind has thrived under the use of surrogates. We are a male-dominated race, a warrior race, with a single objective....to dominate the universe. To do this, we have suppressed our mate bonds, forgotten the traditions that used to bind us to the mates we once worshipped. But all the changes now. Abandoned and alone, we are forced to expose our surrogates to life aboard a military vessel. My surrogate is the first we awaken. I know I'm strong enough to resist the pull of the bond. To avoid the human female who carries my son. I have to be. Otherwise I put every Trenzian warrior on this ship at risk. Not to mention the other surrogates and younglings still in hypersleep. But what happens when I can't resist my instincts, and my female is threatened. Will I embrace the passion and ferocity of a forgotten time? Or do I stay to the path that was laid out before me, even if I risk losing them forever?
