If The Monster deemed it so, then it shall be ... When veteran astronaut Greg O'Dunn answers a desperate distress call from a dying world, he discovers a landscape of ash and thousands of orphaned alien children. With her final breath, the regal Queen Hyva entrusts Greg with her people's survival-and specifically the safety of her daughter, Victoria, and nephew, Viktor. Smuggling the children to Earth is only the beginning of the nightmare. Upon arrival, the survivors are seized by the enigmatic General Alden, a man whose obsession with the children's "preternatural" potential borders on the fanatical. Forced into a world of military oversight and fractured identities, Victoria and Viktor are raised apart, unaware of the royal blood pulsing in their veins or the true nature of the powers manifesting within them. As Victoria's "Emerald Sight" begins to reveal glimpses of a terrifying future, and Viktor is groomed by the General to be an elite military weapon, Greg must navigate a treacherous landscape of political corruption and emotional betrayal to reclaim the children. But as a long-dormant signal from the stars is triggered, Greg realizes the General isn't just studying the Puians-he's waiting for them. With a galactic invasion looming and a secret that could shatter the children's sanity, Greg must decide how much he is willing to sacrifice to protect a legacy that was never meant for Earth.

In the near future, humans have colonized Mars, joined pirates in space, and divided Earth into two vastly different nations: The United Empires and Liansa. When a mission to Mars goes awry, Ailee Chambers---a Sergeant in Earth's Interstellar Force---is left for dead in a spaceship with no life support, and an alien contraption wrapped around her neck. She is rescued, but there's no cause for celebration, because her saviors are pirates, disgusting monsters who kill Martians and Earthers for sport. Yet, when the Captain of the pirates' ship, Felix Oringo, enlists her help to unravel the plans of Boss---the leader of all pirates---Ailee begins sympathizing with her snarky captor. Boss claims he will liberate Liansans from their dictatorship, but Ailee remains unconvinced. After all, what do men in power want? More power. However, in her quest to unveil the leader's plans, the irresistible Boss falls for her, complicating her relationship with Felix, her loyalty to the United Empires, and matters of the heart. For the first time in history, Mars and Earth combine forces to eliminate Boss and retrieve Ailee---why is she so important?---and it's a toss up as to who makes it out alive. * * * Ranking: #5 in femmefatale
