Maria found herself drawn to Amir's intellect and gentle nature. Despite their religious and cultural differences, she admired his strength and resilience. However, it soon became clear that Amir didn't share the same romantic feelings. He saw Maria as a close friend and mentor, someone who could help him navigate his new life, but his heart seemed elsewhere, often seen flirting with girls his age.
