Nessa's parents were murdered by Queen Morana Ashbrook of Asmen almost seven years ago. Since then, her older brother Matthias has ruled over Tarnow, nicknamed the Kingdom of Life by their subjects. Nessa's life is filled with books and sword fighting and not much else, until Matthias goes missing during a revel. The only trace of him is a message Nessa finds in her room, written in blood. Friend or foe. Loss or victory. Life or death. She must save her brother, even if it could cost Nessa her own life. With the help of an assassin and a general's daughter, they must hope that they can save him before it's too late. But the closer they get to saving him, the more secrets are brought to the light. Is Matthias really the carefree king they thought he was?
