Behind the moon is a narrative about the dark side of Jane and Tom, which is hidden from the outside but lives inside.
Jane and Tom are akin to the Ying and Yang symbols in that they are dissimilar on the exterior but complement each other on the inside.
Tom signifies vengeance, while Jane represents innocence. Both are comparable because they have both been injured, and both can see the beauty behind the moon.
The moon represents the mystery hidden behind each object or creature that few can see and understand.
Jane is attempting to embrace her grief and improve herself, but Tom refuses and chooses the dark offer.
With his narcissistic acts, Mr. Nick symbolizes a barrier and a thread of Jane's fears and memories.
Will jane choose Tom, Nick, or herself?
The novel alternates between the good and evil sides of each unhealthy individual.
