On Coles 18th birthday Death gives him a test, to collect the soul of a girl named Caroline. Something about her just isn't right to Cole. Before he knows it she becomes very important to him. Death is very persistent on making his pupil see that she isn't just any girl and will go to extreme measures to make sure he understands.
