While processing the grief a family moves in next door with two neighbour boys who couldn't be more different from each other. One is the outgoing popular hockey star with every girl in school fighting for his attention, while the older is the smart older brother who is studious and focused on getting out of the farming life. Penny quickly gains a friendship with the next-door neighbours and starts dreaming of the future she will have with them. She cannot help comparing her life to her favourite book of a World War I romance as she thinks she's found her Scott Drake dashing war hero pilot. However, she will learn that sometimes being the lucky one is not always what it appears to be.

*Book one of the Counting on Hockey series* To Meredith, watching hockey was torture. But her sister was a hockey player. She wanted nothing to do with hockey, even thinking about it made her angry. But she had her reasons. Starting 10th grade at a new school, meant hockey was everything there. The whole school was obsessed with hockey. The division 1 boys team is the best in the state. Forced to go to hockey games with her sister, and going to school with these hockey 'freaks' is going to be horrible. Or so she thought. But she meets Cole, center for the high school team. Hockey won't be the same for her. Or for him. *Some NHL players in this story are real players, others are made-up* Final edit: 3/10/2022
