Freedom is a gift, and it’s one that Katelynn James valued above all others. Growing up and living on a farm surrounded by vast fields was about as much freedom as a four could get, and Katelynn was thankful that it was the life she was given. She had no intentions of changing the way she lived, and nobody could blame her.
Then one day a small white envelope arrived in the mail. Even though she was forced to enter by her parents, Katelynn had no intentions of actually being selected. While most girls her age were doing everything they could to become a Lady, she was doing the opposite. She didn't want to go to the palace, didn't want to meet the prince and certainly did not want to be a part of the Selection. All she wanted was to stay on her small farm that she called home.
The thing is, we don’t always get what we want.

This is the story of a girl who was born into a family so different compared to who she was. They had a high status in society, often holding dinner parties for all of Houston's most substantial families but she didn't care for money or PHDs. Instead she cared about creativity, art and music. She cared about the inside of people instead of the out, she didn't meet someone and judge them on their choice of clothing as her parents did but instead on their choice of word.
