Mature
After being killed execution-style by his own family, a young man settles in an alternative afterlife and learns how to live.

****************

On the day he graduated from high school, Hezekiah Chamblee was killed by his parents all because he wasn't meant to be a part of their American Dream and that he was a product of rape. Shortly after entering into the void between life and death, he is surprised to learn that he was not meant for heaven or hell and he wasn't meant to return to Earth. He is then sent to a simulated world known as "Nexus," where people like him were sent here and that they view an alternate timeline where they don't exist on Earth.

It is there that Hezekiah not only views a timeline where he doesn't exist but also meets other teenagers and young adults like him, reunites with a crush from his old life (they being close friends back then), encounters with a sly femme fatale with wicked intentions, and learns about his true origin by both God and Lucifer (the deities being brothers themselves). Meanwhile in the land of the living, word of his death would trigger a butterfly effect that would unleash scandals, change lives, and have one of Hezekiah's younger twin brothers expose the family secrets before the family would completely come to ruin. Follow this story alongside Hezekiah Chamblee as he undergoes dynamic paradigm shifts about himself while learning to finally use his voice as his family's forbidden desires would bring them to their downfall.

"What's done in the dark would soon be brought into the light. And what was said in whispers would be shouted loud from the rooftops."

Miles Hoàng's life is perfect. He has the perfect best-friend-slash-boyfriend-slash-bane-of-his-existence, Ziri Meziani. They live in a perfect (if a little cramped) apartment above a Nepalese restaurant they get food from at a discount whenever they're both too lazy to cook. He has a perfect (meaning decent) job with a nice (meaning decent) boss and cool (meaning decent) coworkers at an Amazon warehouse - which means he has to listen to people's complaints about their deliveries being late every time he bothers to socialise as if that's something he has any control over. And sure, his family still think being gay is a phase he'll grow out of. And he has to listen to debates about how queer marriage will irrevocably destroy British society every time he tries to watch the news. And panic attacks start pouncing on him without warning when he's supposed to be the normal one. But otherwise, his life is perfect. Miles has compartmentalised his mind with an efficiency his recovering-hoarder-become-neat-freak mother would be proud of. If somebody were to walk into his mind, they would find a clean house full of natural sunlight and not much else. His grandparents are in one room, his dad's coffin in another, his mother asleep in the third. Even Ziri - especially Ziri - is quarantined from the rest because sometimes there are roars in the basement no amount of music can cover up and Miles has no plan of inviting anyone down those stairs. Until he crams the basement so full that demons start climbing out. Turns out, the walls between his compartments are paper mache. [manxman] [new adult general fiction]

Growing up in chaos isn't simple for all. Not many could cope. They would struggle and kick, but ultimately drown. However, for Dakota, that was his normality. Torturing. Maiming. Killing. That was his life, the life of a hunter. The Arizona line was elusive, written fame in the lore of hunters, and infamy for their prey. They were the best. No one could ever compare to their skills, their abilities, their ruthlessness. But Dakota was something else. His siblings might have learnt to enjoy the hunt, well most of them anyway, but Dakota didn't. There was always something missing for him, something he was waiting on. Silent and everlasting hope. A promise had been made to him, the day his twin brother was stolen, taken by the enemy, plucked right from the very home the Arizonas had grown up in. A promise of something better, something that he might actually want in his life. Now, almost sixteen years later, something was coming. A change was begging to be found. Maybe it would be for the best. Maybe Dakota would finally find that certain something that had been missing his whole life, something to fill the dark and fractured abyss that ached and wailed within. But nothing was ever that simple. Because, of course, the promise that had been made to Dakota would never be anything plausible for him, anything tangible to have and to hold. He had been promised a new life, by the greatest enemy of them all. It wouldn't be easy. Not with his family still clinging to his heels, the teachings of blood and violence burnt into his mind. No, leaving them behind wouldn't ever be easy. Then again, staying with them would only bring his inevitable death. Why not take the chance to die happy? After all, out of the ashes, a phoenix will rise...

"Listen, I've got a proposition for you," Azure's firm voice flew across the soft wind of the graveyard, "something mutually beneficial." Elliot stepped back slightly, "I doubt that." Azure stepped closer and the street light flickered; he then whispered, it was soft, like the fall of dead leaves, "I can help you keep your scholarship. Don't you want to keep your dream a reality?" Elliot narrowed his eyes, "Did you do a background check on me?" "That doesn't answer my question." "And that didn't answer mine." (Abridged) -/- Life had never been fair to Elliot. After barely managing to scrape by, he somehow made it to his junior year at Central Haven, one of the most prestigious preparatory high schools in the country. He was prepared for another two tiresome years of high school, but the future has other plans for him. The start of the school year brings with it the infamous Central Haven merit project. Unfortunately, it's done in pairs this year. Even worse, he's stuck with Azure, notorious for his flippant demeanor. His living situation gets worse and his scholarship is at risk. Azure notices Elliot's struggles and the two make a deal. Surely Azure's up to something, but what? Regardless, Elliot isn't in a position to refuse. ...Maybe they'll find and lose Liberation. -/- If you're unsure about this reading this story, I hope you'll at least stick around to chapter 7 when the story begins ramping up. This story is a slow burn, enemies to friends to lovers. Please do not take this story at surface value as there is a lot of subtext. Be aware: the story can be extremely subtle. The story delves into various topics with social commentary so if you want a nuanced modern romance story, I highly suggest you give this story a try. Elliot is a strong protagonist, just less traditional. Updates will come on Fridays at 4 p.m. (PST) with most months having at least one update. The ending is planned so the story won't be incomplete.

"You are too overpowered. Your existence poses a great threat to my son and daughter of fate. I had no other choice but to kill you." This was the voice of God he heard when he was about to enter the door of death. "A tragic oped character, sigh, its a very popular trend right now. The normal cliche of losing all your loved ones, an illegitimate son of a noble household, possessing overwhelming magic, good looks and what not. But as I kept writing I realised I made you way too oped, to the point your existence became a threat to the plot." The voice of god spoke to him again. "...Are you the one who killed my family?" He asked back with a blank expression. "Yes." Spoke the voice again. This simple one sentence angered him to the point he fought harder against his predestined death. He was enraged. The death of his family was orchestrated by this damn god, his life made miserable and painful, so he had to rise again, back on his two feets so he could destroy the god's world. And so he did. He rose again, defeating his death. Then he had his revenge by almost destroying the world. Almost!!! Before he could lead to the death of the Male and the female lead a thing called system was bounded to his soul. He was forced to leave his world and enter many different worlds. "Well, Unfreeze the OOC!" He demanded with a malicious grin on his face. He had to have his revenge. But most important of all, he had to be the one incharge of his characters. "......." The system shivered at his words, its invisible eyes bulging out. Unbeknownst to him, a GOD had embarked on a journey to a portal of unknown origin right at the time when he was entering a new world. "Oh fuck!" He cursed as he realised a dangerous point. "This is not the protagonist! Who is he?" Novel cover: Drawn by me aka @pushisinung.
