The book examines how individuals and countries would react to the loss of most of the World's computers due to a massive electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) from the Sun. Without computers to operate them, all modern cars, trucks and trains would stop operating and the entire electric grid would fail. The world would immediately move from a post-industrial society to an early industrial society without the simpler infrastructure to allow survival. Within a week, cities and towns would have no food and no easy way to get food. Chaos would reign and society would be based on the survival of the fittest where fittest would usually mean the most ruthless.
Each chapter is self-contained and looks at the experiences of individuals and public agencies all over the world
Although this book is classed as "Science Fiction" it is more accurately a work of "speculative fiction since a nuclear war, which is always possible, would have much the same effect.
The first part of the book is presented here. The remaining parts will be presented subsequently

Blasted Futures, Secret Histories (SciFi Smackdown) by CharlotteAshley
15 parts Complete
The Adventures of Morley and Boots: The crew of the Leapfrog travel randomly about the galaxy in search of unique lifeforms to trap & trade. Intra-galactic poaching is profitable, but risky - like when an Evil Intergalactic Empire accuses you of capturing their Goddess, and you don't even know which critter she is! End Game: In an alternate near-future Indochina, Imperial France still rules, much to the chagrin of the local Siamese. Ratana's brother is captain of a premiere league football team, and a hero to the Siamese - and when he is booted from the squad to make space for the son of a powerful nobleman, it sets off a chain of events that could result in the toppling of the Empire. Self-Assembly Required: Human civilization has been almost entirely destroyed by a catastrophic plague of nanites, but one city remains, hidden and protected by Hydra, a team of all-female nano/human hybrids. Is the arrival of a roguish, lone-wolf mercenary a sign that human civilization is recovering, or the event that could destroy the few remaining survivors? The Woman from Mars: The robotic crew of the Basilisk thought humans were gone, long gone. But when they are sucked back in space and time to Jupiter's moon Europa in 2552, they discover a Viking civilization with the technology to rebuild human civilization - assuming the woman from Mars can complete her mission. Blasted Futures is a short story collection. Pentalements [COMPLETED] by StevenSteel
30 parts Complete
When five normal teenagers are cursed with the Elements of the Pentagon, they suddenly find themselves wielded with the most powerful weapon they could have ever imagined—they can destroy the world. Gathered under the evil scheming of Professor Vladislav, the Pentalements will only need the cosmic energy radiated from the Caesarean Comet before the Elements inside them will break loose and take control over their very bodies. By then, apocalypse would have made its descent to Earth, and subsequently marks the annihilation of humankind. Thus, when the Lead Element, Lightning, triggers an atomic-bomb ferocity explosion in Detroit and killing himself in the process, Nathan, the Fire Element, knows that he has to act. After two years of hiding and concealing his identity, Nathan embarks on a journey in search of the remaining three Elements. To make things worse, he has both the FBI and the army hot on his tail, not to mention the evil Prof Vlad who might show up at any moment and have him abducted. Will Nathan manage to gather with the remaining Elements in order to survive the multiple threats targeted at them? Will the Pentalements succeed in defeating the Elements within their body and stop Prof Vlad from destroying the world? Or would they succumb to the ecstasy and invulnerability of giving in to their Elements? Flip the page to have all your answers solved, and get thrilled to your roots by the amazing and action-packed adventure that awaits you in this novel! Note: I wrote this novel when I was 16 and self-published it, so any comments, preferably constructive ones, are gladly appreciated! As this is my first book, the style and quality isn't as good as what I wanted it to be, so if you want to check out some of my more recent works, try "Someone's In My Head". It's way better than this. ;)
