"I love you." Rafe choked out, his voice slurred and thick with alcohol. His normally sharp, calculating blue eyes were glazed over, his pupils blown wide as he swayed unsteadily in front of you.
You froze, your breath catching in your throat. Your heart pounded against your ribcage like it was trying to escape.
"What...?" The word barely escaped your lips, quiet and disbelieving.
The dim light of his bedroom cast eerie shadows across his face. The air was suffocating, thick with the stale scent of whiskey, sweat, and the faintest trace of expensive cologne.
Rafe's grip on your wrist tightened, his fingers digging into your skin just enough to make you squirm. His touch was possessive, almost punishing. You could feel the heat radiating off his body, his breathing uneven and ragged.
"You heard me." His voice was lower now, rough with something dark and unreadable. "I fucking love you."
A bitter laugh nearly bubbled up your throat. Rafe Cameron didn't love...he obsessed, he destroyed, he controlled. And now, here he was, wasted and clinging onto you like you were the only thing keeping him from falling apart.
"Rafe, you're drunk-"
"No." His grip tightened, making you wince. His jaw clenched, eyes flickering between yours like he was daring you to deny him. "Don't say that shit. I mean it."
His words sent a shiver down your spine, but you didn't know if it was from fear, frustration, or something more dangerous.
Was this just the alcohol talking, or was Rafe Cameron unraveling right in front of you?
