After Ponyboy, Johnny and Sodapop leave the nightly double soda calls it a night and goes home, leaving Ponyboy and Johnny alone in the lot for the night to themselves to talk and have some alone time. Johnny never felt wanted by his parents and stayed at the Curtis brother's house most of the time. Maybe they'll feel something for each other? Maybe they confess? Who knows?
