But worst of all, he can't seem to find a future queen to tickle his fancy. Even when practically-perfect-in-every-way princess Sophia of Dyluth visits on diplomatic grounds, Cassius just can't seem to get with it. When anonymous letters start appearing on his windowsill, his mind becomes even more fuddled. Why can't he make it work with Sophia, and who is this person on the other side of the parchment? And why can't he stop thinking about those letters?

Even if he can't speak of it, Finnian sees and hears about everything that goes on within the castle grounds, from the way the stable master treats the horses, to the latest gossip in the maids' kitchen. He may be poor as dirt, but at least he has good company and a pretty face to look at. Overall, he's satisfied. but when Sophia comes to town, her presence begins to completely upend his life.

When 17-year-old Ren Taylor is swept off a ferry during her family vacation in Scotland, she ends up in a hidden world of bagpipes and whisky, populated by fairies with tails and scales. She learns that she's the kingdom's long-lost princess. Once the shock wears off, she finds solace in the kingdom, from her newfound friendship with the hunky and consistently kilt-clad stable manager to the haughty prince Ren comes to love as her brother. Everything is exactly as the stories said it would be. Well, not everything. Ren can't perform the magic that should be her birthright as princess. When she digs deeper, she discovers that it was all a mistake. Ren isn't the princess. She isn't even a fairy. Reeling, she sets out to find answers, and the true princess. She finds her, but the princess doesn't seem as ignorant of magic as she claims to be. As Ren learns more, she comes to suspect that the princess is plotting to kill the prince. She could go home now, pretend that the whole thing was a dream, not risk her very human life in this magical battle - but if she does, the prince will die, and the kingdom will fall into the hands of their enemies. CASTLE OF FLAME is a YA contemporary fantasy, complete at 99,000 words. It is a total of fifteen chapters. The protagonist is biromantic asexual, and there are a bunch of queer supporting characters. The story includes: · found family · Highland ponies · road trip woes · one bed trope (but gay) · coexistence of magic & science · swoony romance & epic friendships · sympathetic villain TW: gun violence, death, kidnapping, torture (implied), homophobia, internalized acephobia (this only comes up twice - this is not a book where the character struggles with her asexuality), destructive house and forest fires.

Finn has an honourable position; personal servant to the monarch of Cafi, a small country off the coast of France. He also has not-so-honourable a position; a man in love with another man, in the early 1800s. Oliver is being forced towards marriage, and Finn is being forced towards accepting his love is unrequited. As France begins to fall into another revolution, the world begins unravelling around them. Oliver has to fight to maintain the democracy he established, and Finn must cope with the reawakening of his less-than-ideal past as a con artist in the search for his long-lost brother. The two must learn who to trust and who not to trust as they begin to know each other more deeply than they every thought they could. Content Warnings Applicable to This Story: This book is set in the early 1800s, and I don't want to avoid talking about the horrendous things that happened to people of colour then. It will talk about slavery, but from a firm anti-slavery perspective, never glorifying or making excuses for it. Cafi itself is a fictional country and while I absolutely believe they would have had slave trade too (because most places did and I don't want to pretend they didn't), I want the book to include Oliver's fight to abolish slavery in his country. Otherwise, there may be previous mentions of abuse, but it will be extremely mild, nothing graphic, and the chapter itself will pre-warn you. Oliver's relationship with his family can be problematic at times. Please take care of yourself during any chapters that may be triggering for you.

She was neither chained to Heaven nor Hell. Howbeit, no matter how far she reached into the mirror, she could never step through as her ball-and-chain presented itself in the form of a crown. She was a princess with two faces, desperately trying to have a sense of freedom outside of her royal obligations. She found it in the form of a weakness: a passion with another human being. Why were her heartstrings being tugged on by someone of her same gender? Why was it suddenly so difficult, so strenuous to keep living in her pastel world when this mysterious girl brought such bright colours with her?
