Hiccup and Astird don't know each other. Hiccup lives on Berk Island with Toothless the black Night Fury, thinking he is the only Night Fury. Astrid lives on Nile Island (which is Ichy Armpit) with Crystal the black Night Fury, thinking she is the only Night Fury. (Takes place before the 2 movie, but the characters look the same in the 2 movie of How To Train Your Dragon. And Merida from Brave.)
