Coriolanus Snow has been wearing masks all of his life. When the presence of Sejanus Plinth-the district born boy frequently ostracized for being partial to the districts-becomes more frequent, his inner walls start to crumble, therefore lowering the lifelong masks. Although this may only be for a few seconds at a time, Sejanus begins to take notice of this, and eventually comes to the conclusion that Coryo may be other than the perfect Snow boy he presents himself as.
