Amy Rose and Sonic the Hedgehog have been dating for quite some time now. Amy can hardly believe that the man who has saved her life multiple times throughout her life is her boyfriend. Shadow the Hedgehog is widely seen as a loner hedgehog that no one outside a few people can interact with successfully. The Ultimate Lifeform is still haunted by his past visions of Maria, his best friend, and granddaughter of Gerald Robotnik. He doesn't enjoy being around people, particularly Sonic due to his annoyingly enthusiastic personality contrasting to his own serious, focused one. No one has ever been able to make Shadow feel the way Maria has. No one has been able to make him hope again. On the night of Princess Sally's Birthday Ball, a truth is revealed to Amy about Sonic.
