Marley Chaser's life is turned upside down when the sensory condition she's convinced herself is the source of her unique ability to read objects memories is in fact a magical power. Originating from another world called Dearynn, this power is bestowed upon her and others like her called Conduix due to a connection they have to a mystical force called the Wreathe. To Marley's horror she's famous in Dearynn, and the guild Firefly need her fame if they are going to win the bid for the yearly Calamity Defence Contract. A guild of each city earns the chance to defend its occupants against the storm of monstrous beings called Oul's that ravages the continent every year, and Firefly need it to save their guild from being shut down due to a bad reputation they haven't been able to shake for thirty years. But as the bid for the contract grips their city, Marley and the Fireflies will discover how much deeper the mystery surrounding this yearly devastation goes, and how the fate of Dearynn may just lie in their hands if they fail to get to the bottom of it.
