Following saving Sonic and friends, he learns the ways of life, puzzled by their detachments from their own mortality. The blue blur especially didn't seem to care about his life, throwing himself into dangerous situations for strangers. It was something he admired, in a way. What started as curiosity, turned into respect and a longing of some kind. A mutual one the two had to address.
