Remnant, 2024. Remnant is the main setting of the RWBY series. Created by The Gods long ago, it is a future-fantasy world filled with airships, gadgets, high-tech weaponry and a form of natural energy called Dust existing side by side. The four Kingdoms of Remnant are Vale (center), Vacuo (west), Atlas (north) and Mistral (east). Each of the Kingdoms has its own distinct culture - for example, Atlas was known for its martial nature and technological advancement, and Vacuo for its rough-and-tumble lifestyle. Vale was located on the continent called Sanus, with Vacuo on its opposite end. Mistral is on the continent of Anima. Atlas was on the continent of Solitas. Vytal is the name of the island to the north of Vale. Other known landmasses include Menagerie, the continent to the bottom right. Rubicon, 2025. A mysterious new substance called "Coral" was discovered on the remote planet, Rubicon 3. As an energy source, this substance was expected to dramatically advance humanity's technological and communications capabilities. Instead, it caused a catastrophe that engulfed the planet and the surrounding stars in flames and storms, forming a Burning Star System. Almost half a century later, Coral has resurfaced on Rubicon 3, a planet now contaminated and sealed off by the catastrophe. Extra-terrestrial corporations and resistance groups fight over control of the substance. The player infiltrates Rubicon as an independent mercenary and finds themselves in a struggle over the substance with the corporations and other factions. Coral, A Bide With Rubicon! Earth is a planet that was once inhabited by humans until strange, powerful creatures known as Aliens and their creations Machine Lifeforms ravaged the planet and decimated the human population, forcing any survivors to flee to the Moon and some Orbital Space Station/Orbital Satellite Base in outer space. It serves as the main setting for NieR series. YoRHa is an elite military force of advanced androids designed to combat the invading aliens and machine lifeforms. Operating out of their headquarters in the Bunker, YoRHa is led by Command who receives orders from the Council of Humanity. The Planetary Closure Administration was established in the aftermath of the Fires of Ibis to permanently seal off Rubicon 3 and prevent another Coral disaster from happening. The PCA's embargo halted all traffic to and from the planet, denying access to outsiders and also stopping any of Rubicon 3's inhabitants from leaving. The Rubiconians later formed the Rubicon Liberation Front in an effort to topple the PCA and re-open their world. Numerous PCA military bases and support facilities were built across Rubicon 3 while the organization monitored for any remaining Coral and searched for Institute City, the lost headquarters of the defunct Rubicon Research Institute, which had been behind the Fires of Ibis. Eventually, the PCA completed the Closure System, an orbital weaponized satellite array that could keep the planet contained more efficiently, and it abandoned all of its obsolete surface facilities. Only units of the PCA Subject Guard remained on the surface to cordon off certain sites, known as "closure areas", that held old RRI structures such as the watchpoints that were used to monitor Coral flows. The PCA also bolstered its forces with C-Weapons, Coral-powered war machines built by the RRI, that it retrieved from Institute City.
