This is a story I wrote and publish a couple years ago, shined up, and published again. Even though the idea's a bit on the rusty side, I'm really happy with how it turned out. It's fun to revisit my previous writing styles,

My breath hitched when he leaned down to whisper in my ear, "your eyes are beautiful." I couldn't understand what I was feeling, like butterflies in my stomach. I felt all happy and giggly inside, it was scaring me. I wasn't suppose to feel this way, I wasn't suppose to feel anything at all. "You look adorable when you blush," he whispered huskily, causing a shiver to run down my spine. He had such a strong effect on me and I didn't like it one bit. He smelled good though, like cinnamon and forest. His nose brushed against my cheek sending shocks. I pushed him away, and suddenly felt cold. The shae are crafty, tricky and sneaky almost like goblins, at least that's how humans see them. They've been discriminated against for years, as their abilities let them take the form of any animal. Living in the streets was their only home, with no jobs and no one wiling to help them. With two kingdoms in an ongoing war, it's hard for shae to leave Locmore at all. Sabella's father was taken from her to be forced to battle in the war leaving her to her own devices. Living in Locmore's capital city, Helanor has taught Sabella where it's safe for a shapeshifter and where it's not. She's content in living her life the way it is, working for meals on merchant day and sleeping in corners where no kingsman can find her. When she gets the push she needs to leave Locmore and start a new life in the neighbouring kingdom she finally realised that she can live a life of freedom, the only question is will she take it? All werewolves have mates. So what happens when you fall for someone before you're 18... "Hopefully hes my mate" is all Markie can think as she waits for her 18th. This is a short story that takes place in the middle of "Orphan Wolf". It can be read independently but will have spoilers if you intend to read "Orphan Wolf"... I of course would suggest you read it and pause at the point I marked to read "Markie" but the choice is yours. Story excerpt "Come on Ryan leave me alone!" A boy yells. "You started it Francis... come on pup don't start that with me... I don't have time for this! GO HOME!" I felt the command. I see the little 8 year old boy from last night run away crying, one of Ruby's cousins. When I turn the corner I see a boy about 20 and am hit with an overpowering smell something like fresh cut wood and autumn leaves. It is amazing. I see the guy turn towards me and duck behind the house I am standing by before he sees me. Nope! Not him! Not happening! I hear footsteps coming towards me and run. Into the woods I find a pine tree. Perfect! Pine trees are great hiding places. The branches hide you visually and the smell masks your scent. I climb up as quickly as I can and watch the guy approaching. He circles my tree looking around but eventually gives up and goes back towards the houses. "Mate!" My wolf happily purs. "Not him!" I respond. "Denial." She says. "Refusal." I counter and she growls at me. "You will NOT reject him!" She orders. "He is a bully!" "He is mate!" "He commanded that kid when he could have just talked to him! He is a bully with no patience!" "He is an Alpha!" She purrs with pride at his rank. I don't care! "I don't want him!" "The one you want isn't mate. He isn't yours. He isn't interested... I want mate!" "No." I block her out and climb down the tree.Complete

I exclaim, briefly shocked by both the tone and the content of her words. My hands however are already executing her command, unzipping my jacket. "The last time I was able to sleep, I was covered with your hoodie. Your scent is comforting." She states it plainly as if it would be an obvious and broadly known fact. Like the Earth being round. The world's war against dragons has been going on for generations, but no one knows why they fought. After years of fighting a new species emerged, shapeshifters. They were able to shift between a dragon and human form, making them impossible to find. Everyone referred to them as halflings, half dragon and half human. They were said to have wondrous abilities ranging from an armor like pelt to healing powers. These abilities made them prized creatures and wanted across all lands. Those that were discovered usually ended up as pets or fighters in arena's. After five years of their existence they all went into hiding, fearing what the humans did to those that had been captured. They were taught at a young age to never show what they could do to a human, as it would lead to being caught and possibly killed. There were small sanctuaries in each town, though they appeared to be normal hotels or orphanages. And this is when our story takes place....
