Tythia's people have been fighting against the Wild Ones, dangerous creatures who inhabit the planet's forests, for hundreds of years. Being bitten by one is a death sentence-but what happens when you survive? 

This is a story I wrote and publish a couple years ago, shined up, and published again. Even though the idea's a bit on the rusty side, I'm really happy with how it turned out. It's fun to revisit my previous writing styles,Tous Droits Réservés

On a mission to explain to her aunt and cousin why she could never be with them again, Riley discovers that her place in Werecat society runs much deeper than she originally thought. She and her friends must overcome obstacles that could not only cost them their place in the leap, but also their lives.

Those that were discovered usually ended up as pets or fighters in arena's. After five years of their existence they all went into hiding, fearing what the humans did to those that had been captured. They were taught at a young age to never show what they could do to a human, as it would lead to being caught and possibly killed. There were small sanctuaries in each town, though they appeared to be normal hotels or orphanages. And this is when our story takes place.... This is a short story that takes place in the middle of "Orphan Wolf". It can be read independently but will have spoilers if you intend to read "Orphan Wolf"... I of course would suggest you read it and pause at the point I marked to read "Markie" but the choice is yours. Story excerpt "Come on Ryan leave me alone!" A boy yells. "You started it Francis... come on pup don't start that with me... I don't have time for this! GO HOME!" I felt the command. I see the little 8 year old boy from last night run away crying, one of Ruby's cousins. When I turn the corner I see a boy about 20 and am hit with an overpowering smell something like fresh cut wood and autumn leaves. It is amazing. I see the guy turn towards me and duck behind the house I am standing by before he sees me. Nope! Not him! Not happening! I hear footsteps coming towards me and run. Into the woods I find a pine tree. Perfect! Pine trees are great hiding places. The branches hide you visually and the smell masks your scent. I climb up as quickly as I can and watch the guy approaching. He circles my tree looking around but eventually gives up and goes back towards the houses. "Mate!" My wolf happily purs. "Not him!" I respond. "Denial." She says. "Refusal." I counter and she growls at me. "You will NOT reject him!" She orders. "He is a bully!" "He is mate!" "He commanded that kid when he could have just talked to him! He is a bully with no patience!" "He is an Alpha!" She purrs with pride at his rank. I don't care! "I don't want him!" "The one you want isn't mate. He isn't yours. He isn't interested... I want mate!" "No." I block her out and climb down the tree.

Life has never seemed more serene than as I lay dying. Blood coats the forest floor beneath me, connecting with the foilage-covered soil in a parade of musty, copper smells. Through the rain drops that fall on me from the treetops, I can feel the icy breath of a dawning winter. It will be cold this year. It's a shame Ill never see it- I love the cold. Most cold. This cold that envelopes me now is hostile and uninviting, almost empty. They say that when you're faced with death, your life flashes before your eyes. The same could not be said for me. My breath hitched when he leaned down to whisper in my ear, "your eyes are beautiful." I couldn't understand what I was feeling, like butterflies in my stomach. I felt all happy and giggly inside, it was scaring me. I wasn't suppose to feel this way, I wasn't suppose to feel anything at all. "You look adorable when you blush," he whispered huskily, causing a shiver to run down my spine. He had such a strong effect on me and I didn't like it one bit. He smelled good though, like cinnamon and forest. His nose brushed against my cheek sending shocks. I pushed him away, and suddenly felt cold. Word and then to his temple Thought and finally, down his chin through the spikes of his facial hair. All the while, our eyes connected. His cobalt color started shifting and gold pierced through. My breath left me in an audible long sound, clearing my lungs. It was at that that my head tilted slightly, and I bent my chin to my shoulder, my hand again doing what it wanted and pulling the collar away from my neck. Suddenly pain was at my shoulder and teeth were being bit into me!

A short story written for the Red Feather Award Summer 2019 Writing Contest. @RedFeatherAward Also a first draft- The gates between the world has been opened. Creatures long forgotten have been released. Creatures good... and evil. Creatures seeking revenge. Grizela West (Griz) is definitely not normal. She doesn't even look human, which led to her being thrown out of home at an early age. After accidently killing a person (she closed a lid on a bin that was later emptied with a man inside), she is on the run from everything she has known for most of her life. The people who she has grown up with, who has helped her, are hunting her. They aren't the only ones. A being, one of those who has been imprisoned until being released, wants revenge. It won't stop until it dies, or until those who it hunts is dead. After finding a scent that is different but similar to its own, and to those it hunts, it will search far and near for the owner.
