Hekserij

Clay's mother knows what it feels like to be ostracised for being different - she's a witch, after all. That's why she moved them to Hekserij, a small town in the Karoo desert with a history of harbouring women accused of witchcraft. When Clay comes out as gay, he expects a bigger reaction from the isolated community. Instead of fear or anger, he receives only polite disinterest - and terrifying nightmares. Clay knows there is a link between all of these things (there are no coincidences when your mother is a powerful being from another realm) - but he may not like the answers he finds.
