On all fours, Basil looks up to see a taller, concerned girl with long, dark purple hair. She holds out a hand, which, as the boy could see, has a ring on the middle finger.

"It's alright." Her voice is relaxed. "Stick by me. We'll find a way out of here."

They didn't.

Trapped with around fifteen other strangers about his age - oh, besides his caretaker Polly, of course, Basil and those other people are forced to go through a painful ordeal. Which does wonders for Basil's already deteriorating mental health.....not.
