One dark act, that's all it takes to darken your soul, it didn't matter what that act was for, it didn't matter if it was all in good will or not, in the end there would be a price to pay. That was something Colton understood better than anyone. 

Colton had done his best to live a holy life, he lived as a holy witch believing in his religion and the magic he practiced. He was trained and practiced with the belief in angels and the life beyond earth. He was on track for Heaven, he one used magic for good, he ran a diner, and had a job on the radio, and a perfect marriage. Yes, life was good, then tragedy stuck and in a desperate attempted to save the love of his life he made a deal that would hunt him for eternity. His soul for a life. 

When he died, he found himself in hell on the fallen angel's leash and his tasks?  Take care of hells little princess. As confused as Colton was, he helped raise the princess of hell for a century. When she was all grown up, he found himself stuck helping her with her passion project, a hotel to rehabilitate sinners and get them into Heavan, she's dead set on getting her mentor there and he doesn't have the heart to tell her that even if it were possible he can never leave hell.
