In Taisho-era Japan, life was good for siblings Kamado Tanjirou and Nezuko. They weren't the richest, but they were happy. One day, Tanjirou fell ill the day he was supposed to be selling charcoal, so Nezuko goes instead. However, when she returns the following morning, she discovers her entire family massacred.
