The Justice League somehow winds up several years in the future... Or maybe it's an alternate universe? After all, there seems to be an extra kryptonian protector of this time's Metropolis, one that goes by "Superboy".
Alternatively:
Clark is ecstatic to see another kryptonian, even if it's one from a (maybe?) alternate universe, but... his fellow kryptonian doesn't appear to share the same feeling of immediate kinship. Luckily enough, Superman wasn't known for giving up!

Sure, he's incredibly powerful, but he always found himself at odds with his ingenious brother Lex, competing for their father Lionel's approval and attention. Rather than hiding behind nerdy glasses (don't come for me, y'all, I love nerdy Clark Kent), Clark Luthor's upbringing turned him into something much darker and more dangerous. But this story isn't really about him, it's about the shy and quirky girl who seems impervious to death or permanent injury who unfortunately gains his attention.
