"What are you doing here?" He asked her, an earnest look on his face. "Servants aren't supposed to be at the ball unless they're serving food."

"Well, you don't seem to be serving food either." She snapped back at him, trying to deflect the situation.

He smiled at her before laughing and saying, "Yeah, I guess I'm not."

They looked at each other, their expressions softening as they made a mutual agreement. They both weren't meant to be there, but so what? She wasn't going to tell on him, and he wasn't going to tell on her, so it was all okay. They could trust each other, at least a little bit. She hoped.

Suddenly, he held out his hand in front of her and asked, "So, may I have this dance?"

Brynleigh was just another part of the political game, and she was fine with that. The king was cruel. She knew that.
