Ayla Aster is an orphan due to the war just like the Pevensie's. However, she had no home in the first place. Ever since she could remember she was all alone. No one to call home, no one to go to. The caretaker at the orphanage was the closest thing she thought she could have as a family.
The air raid in London forced children to turn to the countryside in order to be safe. Professor Kirke took 5 kids in after that, the Pevensies and Ayla.
