6 BBY: an aging warship, the Ultimor, is a Venator-class Star Destroyer due to be decommissioned. New Imperial Star Destroyers are being built everyday, and there's no place for a creaking Clone Wars-era ship in the modern Imperial Navy. In its final days of service, the Ultimor and its crew are sent on a last assignment at the edge of the Galactic Empire to oversee the admission of a new planet, Jurmaer, into the Imperial Senate - a simple task to fill out the Ultimor's service-life. But all is not as it seems at Jurmaer: a smuggler crew arrives at the planet, bringing unusual cargo that will alter the fate of its people; the captain of the Ultimor finds himself mired in a political quagmire that might cost him his freedom - and maybe even his life; and a young engineer nears the completion of a task that will prove her worth to her betters...but at the cost of someone once dear to her.
