In this lifetime heartstopper characters are transformed into different lives the characters you know and love will stay the same but backstories and stuff like that will be different. Charlie's had rough past with self harm and suicide attempts and eating disorders, his mom and dad were split when he and his siblings, Tori and Oliver, were little. So it was just them and their mom they've moved all around the world but When they move to this one place Charlie immediately thinks it's gonna be like everywhere else but slowly his spark comes back.

As you can see nick is fully colored while Charlie is not, but when you see his hand touch Charlie's you see Charlie immediately gain that spark and color in his sweater and it spreads overtime to his heart forming that love for Nick
