Kaida Hinotori was once a happy nine-year-old girl from the hidden Hinotori clan. Her clan possessed a rare Kekkei Genkai - the ability to manipulate light in ways that could distort an opponent's perception of reality, time, and space. However, Kaida also had another gift - she was the Jigenjuuriki of the Phoenix, a dimensional beast separate from the nine bijuu.

Unfortunately, a rogue ninja and his army attacked the Hinotori clan, seeking to steal both Kaida's Jigenjuu and Kekkei Genkai for their own gain. To protect herself and her clan, Kaida's parents and elders of her clan sealed her away using the powerful Pillar Seal of Fire - a sealing jutsu meant as a last resort defense. It placed Kaida in the seal for 100 years, the maximum time limit of the seal.

When the seal finally breaks, Kaida awakens to find that everything has changed. Her entire clan was assassinated, and she is now the last of the Hinotori bloodline. Struggling to process this tragedy and adjust to the modern world, Kaida seeks refuge in the Hidden Leaf Village. Though over a hundred years old, Kaida was still physically and mentally a seven year old girl.

Alone and afraid, Kaida must come to terms with her tragic past while forging new bonds and finding her place in the Leaf. But dark forces still covet her power, and they will stop at nothing to control the Jigenjuu. Kaida's greatest challenges have only just begun.
