Promises Promises

For a place called Fairhaven, Davina Harlow's hometown is a haven for nothing but corruption.

No matter how pretty things look from the outside, deception rots at the core. It waits around every corner, touches everything she loves, and the presence of a small criminal organization plants seeds of doubt where she wishes only happiness could grow.

All she's ever dreamed of is the carefree life she was promised, to keep her family close by and live happily ever after with the guy she's had her eye on for as long as she can remember. But when something sinister lies behind every smile and no one's who they say they are, that dream has never felt so out of reach.

Even as she tries to separate herself from the darkness of her once beloved hometown, Davina only finds herself more immersed in the lies and greed that have destroyed it. And with love and loyalty being tested at every turn, she's left trying to figure out what's real amidst smoky truths and scattered feelings. All while trying to stay alive.

(This story is being written for the eight-chapter challenge, which means the first ten or so chapters will be delivered promptly, but updates are likely to slow down after that. I will finish though! Promise.)
