**Book one in the Wolf Eyes series**

   I am silent as I move through the woods. Dust hangs in the air, the sunlight making designs where it creeps through the branches overhead. The only sound is my breath, inhaled slowly over my bared teeth. The pads of my feet are noiseless in the damp underbrush. I listen to the beat of my heart over the rush of a nearby creek.
  I go slowly to the water's edge, knowing I am now exposed. I look at my reflection, hardly recognizing myself. My black fur is now thicker, fuller, and my blue eyes look tired. My ears prick, another animal close by. A cricket fills a long moment with clicks before I move again. My heart beats rapidly.
  Something brushes my shoulder. I want to flinch, I want to turn and snap it between my teeth, but I don't move. I stand there for a long moment, my ears swiveling, trying to locate the animal. My nostrils flare, but all I smell is the water close behind me and the woods around me. I take a long time to lift my paw from the ground. I think... Quiet. I hear a live, rustling sound nearby, and it catches my attention and holds it. My stomach is tight, nerves like pins and needles. I take another step, and another, until I am slowly making my way towards the sound.All Rights Reserved
