The story begins with a group of friends meeting at night for their reading ritual outside the local library. Among them are the protagonist, Elia, her twin brother Eitan, their friend Daniel, and Elia's best friend Tamara. While waiting for the tardy boys inside the library, Elia and Tamara discuss their previous literary adventures. Eventually, the boys arrive, and the group discovers a captivating new book about a boy named Leonard who finds a portal to another world. As they read, they become immersed in the story, reciting a magic phrase from the book for courage. Suddenly, a portal appears, causing panic among the group, who had always believed magic to be fictional. Despite Daniel's insistence on leaving, Elia feels drawn to the portal and steps inside.
