Cynthia knows virtually nothing about her past, and neither do her siblings. All they know are their names, that they reside within the protection of Avalon, and that they would be nothing without The Lady. They were created within the heart of a storm, and only under The Lady's watchful care will they fulfill their potential for true greatness. She gave them everything; a beautiful life full of magic, enchantment, and wonder. A full life of riches and all of the comfort they could ask for. Yet, still, there is something missing; there always is. Perhaps it's that itch of curiosity that leads her to sneak out. Or perhaps it's just the call to the void that beckons her to go beyond The Mist. Though, no matter how many times she goes searching for whatever she thinks she's looking for, something always feels missing.
Until one night, a one-sided reunion with a golden-eyed thief may lead her to the answers she's looking for.

(Author's Note: Hello dear readers! Wow, I can't believe I started writing this back in 2016. I was still in Grade 9 when I last updated this. I've been meaning to write more lately and while I was nostalgically reading stuff from my teen years I was thinking about maybe updating and continuing with this. I'll be editing the original chapters and trying to continue the story on a semi-regular schedule to get back into the habit of writing. Though disclaimer I haven't read The Child Thief since I was in Grade 8-9 and have forgotten a lot of it. However, my university self still has a love for fairy tales and myths so I'll keep with the original setup, though warning this will probably not be the most cannon-compliant work unless I re-read The Child Thief sometime in the future. This story is based off a royal high role play I did with some strangers, but we are really good friends now so I will not call them "strangers" its based off greek god's kids, and their story but if it was a mix of fantasy and modern day. She also met a few people that soon became friends with her... even the weirdo Hazelia (believe me, I got a lecture from Hazy for writing this but do I care? No). In a world where magical creatures and humans intermix, there are two types of magic and two types of people. Dark magic and light magic. Good people and evil people. Our main character is going to learn that your powers do not define who you are as a person. Arion Griffin lives in a society where people with light magic are 'good' and people with dark magic are 'bad'. He comes from a long line of dark magic. Unfortunately, this causes many problems for his social life since his family's reputation precedes him and makes it so no one will talk with him. He is worried it will make his greatest fear come true. He is terrified he is on the path to becoming evil like his parents. Then, one day at school he gets an invitation from Cassiopeia's School for the Gifted. Sure he's heard of it, but only in rumors. The school is just for magical creatures to learn more about themselves and their history. It was made over three hundred years ago and still run by a fairy named Cassiopea and her daughter Cassia. Arion is excited to go because his parents refuse to teach him anything about other magical creatures other than dark magic. They believe it is irrelevant for him to know because they think he will take over the world one day. And why should a leader know anything about his subjects? Arion convinces his parents that if he goes to the school he can do recon on the other magical people so he can learn about them and make it easier for him to take over. With no friends, no siblings, and a very negative outlook on life, he heads to Cassiopeia's School for the Gifted. They try to run but there's no time. We try to hide but there's No TIME. when I was a kid, I tried to learn all I could but now I wish I could lose it all. <TW: As I lay here choking on my blood I stare at the heavens and ask for one last ray to see me off. As the rain washes my blood along the earth, being soaked in by the hungry land. That day something was different, something changed in me. A new light shines deep within me, my torso once in two now slowly becoming one as black tar slowly stitched me back together. The greedy land soaks up my blood, now not a drop lies in my body but the gods are ready as the earth slowly starts to reach for me taking me to its restless lands replacing my blood with tar. ^ This fic is a combination of a BBC's Merlin set in the future/ current times but it's more of an Adjacent timeline to ours, OC insert, and a bit of Arthurian myth set in the modern day. This is my first story so sorry if it's bad Even though it's an OC insert it can be read as a self-insert. OC's name is pronounced as Z-AYAH (Zaya) TW -bad writing - gore - gay? - no real sense of time - I'm a big fan of angst - I ship Lancelot x Gawain as well as Merlin x Arthur.
