Set in 16th-century feudal Japan, the country is in great turmoil. The ruling Ashikaga Shogunate has lost its authority over the regional warlords (Daimyos), and as a result these daimyos now attempt to seize power, land and control from one another, throwing the country into civil war and chaotic conflict.

The story will be focused on three main characters, each rulers of their respective clans, as well as their offspring in the coming decades as generations of clans fight. Shimazu Takahisa, daimyo of the Shimazu, a clan revered and feared for their unparalleled skill with the katana. Chosokabe Kunichika, daimyo of the Chosokabe, a clan with unmatched prowess in the use of the bow. And lastly, Takeda Shingen, daimyo of the Takeda, a clan holding the terror and prestige of mastering horseriding and mounted combat. Other prominent Japanese clan leaders, such as Oda Nobunaga, as well as prominent heroes and legends at the time, such as Miyamoto Musashi, will play a part in this saga as it unfolds from the 16th century into the early 17th century.

The year is 1545, and war is already well on its way through the country. The actions of these 3 daimyos and their future heirs will influence the course of Japanese history, but more so their mastery of their respective fields will shed light on the warfare of these clans.

All of them aim for the title of the Shōgunate; for he who controls the country by military conquest will be the de facto ruler of the country entire; and henceforth they shall be known as "Shōgun".
