Being the daughter of Chen came with many downsides, and the only perk I could think of was that the ocean was many times as close as my backyard. The ocean, my favorite thing in this world.

My dad planned on stealing every elemental power for a spell, and I, of course, were to help him. I didn't need to wonder what would happen if I didn't, it had been ingrained in my brain, listen or there were... consequences.

Which is why the arrival of a certain ninja frustrated me so much. It was in the way he looked at me, in the way his mouth curled up when we talked, in his hands as he ran them through messy strands. He put me at war. A war with myself. I had been conditioned, programmed, and he made me want to go against that. Go against everything I had ever known.
