As Consul Alex Lightwood is trying to reform a new Nephilim government after the Cohort seized Idris, he sends Jace, Clary, Emma, and Julian to investigate a series of suspicious killings that have been happening for months in the Italian city of Florence. The victims are both Downworlders and mundanes and the murders appear to be demonic in nature. Emma and the others will get to know Beatrice and her mismatched group of friends that include a warlock, a werewolf, and another Nephilim who left the Clave.
