𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬?

Archer Wright finds himself thinking the question.
He's outside of his classroom, having to hold this door closed. Because if he stops pressing, somebody's gonna get through and most likely maul his face off.
He should be at lunch, eating..
But everybody has lost their minds. Starting with this one guy. Sniffling, coughing, snot on their nose. Gross.
Wheezing. Talking to himself.. Laying on the ground now. Throwing up..? Is he okay?

A 'Disease,' He would say.
Symptoms are unspecified, and when you get it, it seems your life is already over. You can't stop yourself. Even if you know what you're doing, the actions aren't your own.
Archer Wright, with little options and no warning, has to navigate his way through a deadly epidemic that slowly consumes all around him.
..With some other guy.

------------

He walks past his class, earbuds in.
"HEY, COME OVER HERE!"
"..." The guy looks over, but can't hear-
"HEY! Don't you fucking DARE walk away." He points at the guy, and someone bashes again. Archer gets sent back a bit by the impact, but he keeps holding strong.

The guy's eyes widen, and he walks over, lightly pushing his hands on the door.

He takes an earbud out. "Hey, how long are we gonna be here..? And why am I doing this?"
"I mean, I don't know. Wait! haven't I seen you around? Santiago? Estrayla..?"
"Uhhh, yeah. But it's 'Estrada'."
"Sure, whatever." A bloodied hand proceeds to punch through the door, and grab Estraylas leg.

"Huh? o-H MY GOD! OH MY GOD-"

100 years ago, amidst WW3's nuclear bombing, a deadly virus was released in the atmosphere and nearly wiping out the humanity. It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance. Many attempts were made to create a man-made version of synthetic dopamine and each time the outcome was a disaster. Their goal is to create new generations, immune to the virus. These are called Purebloods, the offsprings of those who find pure love, the only cure to save them from a violent death. Running out of time, the Experiment entered in its final stages. To minimize the threats, the Colonies have sent their best soldiers to oversee the trial and protect its key subjects. If only things were going according to plan, or better...stay hidden. With Iron Guard, the resistance outside the walls, hunting the Purebloods too, will the trial save human race before it's too late? #3 in #dystopianfuture (27.06.2020)

In the blink of an eye, things change. An ominous message is sent out to all of those below the age of sixteen, providing precise instructions that suggest they flee. Simultaneously, a deadly virus starts to spread all about the world, attacking only the Altered -- every human over the age of sixteen. Trying to escape her home life in order to save her little brother, Skylar must decide between keeping secrets or saving herself. With the help of Beckett, her first love, and his family Skylar might be able to break the cycle and stop from becoming everything she hates. Preview: I gritted my teeth when I saw that Beckett was still sitting there. I released Waylin's hand and pulled Beckett up from the chair and across the hall. "What do you want?" I asked harshly, trying not to raise my voice. "Nothing, I just thought you might need somewhere to stay. You said that you didn't have any relatives in the area, and I figured you and Waylin could stay at my house. My parents wouldn't mind." I rolled my eyes and took a deep breath to compose myself. "What makes you think I would want to stay with you? Huh?" I asked. He didn't flinch at my words, but looked sadly down at me. "Please, just put the past aside and do what's right for Waylin." "Don't you dare tell me what is best for Waylin! I've been taking care of him pretty damn well his whole life. You have no right to assume otherwise about my decisions." He put up his hands in surrender and sighed. "Look, I don't know why your mom is in the ICU, I don't know anything, okay? I just know that you're going to need somewhere to stay where there are actual adults because you aren't his guardian, and I don't see any social workers around. So, what? You told them you had a family member coming to get you, right?" I rolled my eyes and he continued. "Right. So, what are you going to do when they send social services to your house?"
